A pesar de la asociación que su nombre produce con algunos hechos sombríos del pasado reciente de la historia colombiana, el Parque Temático Hacienda Nápoles se ha construido desde cero, a partir del año 2007 cuando se propuso su creación. Desde esa época se le considera como el proyecto líder de una de las más grandes transformaciones regionales que ha tenido Colombia luego de la desarticulación del Cartel de Medellín que lideraba Pablo Escobar. Hoy en día la propiedad está en cabeza del Estado colombiano, en tanto sus contenidos son desarrollados por la empresa privada.
La hacienda Nápoles fue conformada en 1978 por Pablo Escobar y su primo Gustavo Gaviria, con la compra a veces forzada de otros predios menores, que luego fueron reunidos en una sola propiedad de cerca de 3000 hectáreas bajo el nombre de Hacienda Nápoles. De inmediato se iniciaron una serie de obras que tenían como objetivo embellecer el lugar, donde se construyeron edificios con decenas de habitaciones, carreteras, seis piscinas, 27 lagos artificiales, gasolinera propia, una pista de aterrizaje de aviones, helipuertos, hangares, y una exótica arborización que incluía palmeras y establos con caballos.
El parque temático Hacienda Nápoles es uno de los espacios más grandes de transformación regional en Colombia, luego de una época difícil para el país, pues se convirtió en ambiente de conservación de especies y atractivo turístico. Despite the association that its name produces with some dark events in the recent past of Colombian history, the Hacienda Napoles Theme Park has been built from scratch, starting in 2007 when its creation was proposed. Since that time, it has been considered as the leading project of one of the greatest regional transformations that Colombia has had after the dismantling of the Medellín Cartel led by Pablo Escobar. Today the property is headed by the Colombian State, while its contents are developed by private companies.
Hacienda Napoles was formed in 1978 by Pablo Escobar and his cousin Gustavo Gaviria, with the sometimes forced purchase of other smaller properties, which were later gathered into a single property of about 3,000 hectares under the name of Hacienda Napoles. Immediately a series of works began with the aim of beautifying the place, where buildings with dozens of rooms, roads, six swimming pools, 27 artificial lakes, its own gas station, an airplane landing strip, heliports, hangars, and a exotic tree planting that included palm trees and stables with horses.
The Hacienda Napoles theme park is one of the largest spaces of regional transformation in Colombia, after a difficult time for the country, as it became an environment for the conservation of species and a tourist attraction.
