La Bandera
The Flag
La bandera de Medellín es blanca y verde, en franjas horizontales iguales y lleva el escudo de la ciudad en el centro. El blanco simboliza pureza, integridad, obediencia, firmeza y elocuencia. El verde representa la esperanza, la abundancia, la libertad y la fe.
The Medellín flag is white and green, in equal horizontal stripes and bears the city`s coat of armas in the center. White symbolizes purity, integrity, obedience, firmness and eloquence. Green represents hope, abundance, freedom and faith.
El Escudo
The Shield
Actualmente se compone de campo azul en donde se representa un torreón de oro y sobre la puerta un escudo de 7 armas con 15 casillas, 7 azules y 8 de oro. En la parte superior 2 torreones y en medio de ellos la imagen de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, Patrona de la ciudad.
Currently is made up of a blue field where a gold tower is represented and on the door a seven weapons with 15 squares shield 7 blue and 8 gold. In the upper part two towers and in the middle of them the image of Our Lady of Candelaria, Patron Saint of the city.
La Orquídea

La familia de las orquídeas, a la cual pertenece la flor de mayo (Cattleya trianae), es la más abundante, tanto en la flora de Colombia como en la flora mundial. De hecho, es la familia de plantas que exhibe las características más avanzadas desde el punto de vista evolutivo. Es por este proceso de diversificación, que sobresale su abundancia y diversidad de especies.
Se calcula que el número de especies de las orquídeas es superior a 35.000. Por su belleza y por la variedad de especies en el país, las orquídeas son consideradas la flor nacional de Colombia. En Medellín el Jardín Botánico organiza incluso el “Festival de orquídeas, flores y artesanías”, donde se exalta su valor.
The Orchid family, to which the May flower (Catleya Trianae) belongs, is the most abundant, both in the flora of Colombia and in the world flora.
